Reiki FAQs

Reiki originated in Japan with Mikao Usui in 1922. During a meditation and fasting retreat on Mount Kurama, Usui experienced a profound spiritual awakening that filled him with immense energy, light, and clarity. He discovered his healing abilities after this moment and began sharing his practice, forming the foundation of Reiki as we know it today.

Yes, anyone can learn Reiki. However, it requires an attunement (in Western Reiki) or a Reiju ceremony (in Jikiden Reiki) performed by a qualified teacher. This process activates the Reiki energy within the individual, allowing them to channel healing energy for themselves and others.

Yes, while both trace their origins to Mikao Usui, they differ in approach:

  • Western Reiki: Simplifies techniques with structured hand placements and additional symbols for ease of learning.
  • Jikiden Reiki: Stays true to Japanese traditions, focusing on intuitive practice, Byosen scanning, and gradual skill development.

Jikiden Reiki translates to “directly taught” and is closest to Usui’s original teachings. It was formalized by the Yamaguchi family and emphasizes traditional Japanese methods like toxin removal, Byosen scanning, and restoring energy flow.

Western Reiki was introduced by Hawayo Takata, who adapted the practice for Western audiences by simplifying techniques and creating a structured hand placement system, making it accessible to practitioners of all backgrounds.

During a session:

  • The client remains fully clothed and lies down or sits comfortably.
  • The practitioner gently places their hands on or near the body.
  • The focus is on clearing Byosen (accumulated toxins) and restoring energy flow.
The treatment is gentle, safe, and deeply relaxing.

Distant Reiki (sometimes called remote Reiki) is a beautiful way of receiving healing energy, no matter where you are in the world. Reiki energy is not limited by time or space, which means it can be channelled across any distance with the same effectiveness as an in-person session.

I offer Traditional Distant Healing, where there is no online connection during the treatment itself — only a brief call or message before and after, at your convenience. This allows you to fully relax in your own space while I connect with your energy.

A typical Distant Reiki session flows as follows:

  1. Intention & Consent – We begin by setting a clear healing intention, with your permission and openness to receive.
  2. Energetic Connection – Using traditional Reiki symbols, visualization, and your personal details, I connect with your unique energy field.
  3. Channelling Reiki – Healing energy is sent to you throughout the session while you simply rest and allow yourself to receive.
  4. Closing the Session – The treatment is completed with gratitude, and you are encouraged to remain restful afterwards to integrate the energy.

A Distant Reiki session with Lucia is designed to be as personal and supportive as if you were together in the same room. Here’s what to expect:

  1. Booking & Consultation – Once you contact Lucia, you’ll arrange a suitable day and time for your session. Before the treatment, there will be a short consultation via FaceTime or Zoom. This allows Lucia to understand your current health, energy, and reasons for seeking Reiki.
  2. Preparation – You’ll receive simple guidance on how to set up your space so you feel comfortable and relaxed during the session.
  3. Details Needed – To connect with your energy field, Lucia will kindly request your full name, a recent photo of your face, your date of birth, and your address.
  4. The Session – At the scheduled time, you’ll rest quietly in your chosen space while Lucia carries out the Traditional Distant Reiki treatment, just as she would if you were physically present.
  5. After the Session – Once the treatment is complete, Lucia will send you a message to let you know it has finished.
  6. Follow-Up – About a week later, you’ll have a follow-up call to share your experiences and reflect on any shifts in your physical, mental, or emotional well-being.

Frequency depends on your needs:

  • Acute issues: Weekly sessions are helpful initially.
  • Chronic conditions: 2–3 sessions per week may be beneficial, tapering as symptoms improve.
  • General well-being: Monthly or occasional sessions are sufficient for maintenance.

Discuss your specific situation with your practitioner for a tailored schedule.
