“Reiki is holistic, it works on the body, mind and spirit by stimulating our own natural healing abilities.”
Garry Malone
Reiki is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan in 1922, founded by Mikao Usui. It is both a healing method and the name of the energy itself. The term “Reiki” comes from two Japanese Kanji characters: 靈 (Rei), which means “spiritual energy from the Universe,” and 氣 (Ki), which means “life-force energy.” Thus, Reiki can be translated to “universal life energy” or “soul energy” in the Japanese tradition.
Reiki practitioners use a technique called hands-on healing or palm healing, where they place their hands lightly on or just above the recipient’s body. This practice is believed to transfer universal life energy, promoting physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. Reiki is used to reduce stress, enhance relaxation, and support overall well-being. It is considered a complementary therapy and can be used alongside conventional medical treatments.
Japanese Jikiden Reiki and Western Reiki styles
Both Jikiden and Western Reiki originate from Usui Sensei’s Reiki. However, Western Reiki has left behind some elements and introduced other practices and symbols. The Japanese style, Jikiden Reiki, is more intuitive and involves sensing subtle energy changes in the recipient’s body to detect Byosen – the accumulation of energetic stagnation or imbalances in the body, which can manifest as physical, emotional, or mental discomfort. This is a key concept used in Jikiden Reiki to identify areas in need of healing during a Jikiden Reiki session and requires practitioners to gradually develop their skills over time. In contrast, the Western Reiki style is more logical and systematic, enabling anyone to practice it immediately. Despite these differences, both Western and Japanese styles of Reiki complement each other.

Reiki treatments
I initially received my Reiki certification through Dorothea Pritchett, following the western Usui Reiki Ryoho tradition, and attained Level 3 (Master level). Later, I discovered Jikiden Reiki, regarded as the most authentic form of Japanese Reiki, founded by Mikao Usui and passed down through the Yamaguchi family in Japan. I trained in Jikiden Reiki with Rika Tanaka, a Jikiden Reiki Dai Shihan (senior teacher) and Pro Chair-JRUKA, Director-IJRA, in London. Since then, I have exclusively practiced Jikiden Reiki one-to-one and distant treatments.

Reiki distant treatments
A Reiki distant treatment, also known as remote Reiki or distance healing, is a method where the practitioner sends Reiki energy to a recipient who is not physically present. This technique is based on the belief that energy is not limited by time or space, allowing healing energy to be transmitted across any distance. This is often enhanced by visualization techniques, symbols, and a focused connection with the recipient’s energy field.
During the session, the recipient may feel warmth, tingling, or relaxation, similar to an in-person session, as the energy works to clear blockages, balance the chakras, and promote healing. Distant Reiki can be just as effective as in-person treatments, supporting emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.
Reiki distant treatments are valued for their flexibility, allowing individuals to receive healing energy regardless of their physical location, making it a convenient and accessible option for many.
In a Jikiden Reiki distant treatment, it is not essential for the recipient to be aware they are receiving the energy, although being aware may enhance the effectiveness of the treatment. Awareness helps the recipient become more receptive to the energy, potentially leading to greater relaxation and healing benefits.
I offer Traditional Distant Healing, which means there is no online connection during the treatment itself. We will connect briefly before and after the session — either by call or message — at a time that feels convenient for you. This allows you to fully relax in your own space while I connect with your energy.

Reiki as complementary medicine
Reiki can be a valuable complementary therapy for improving well-being and managing symptoms, but it should not be relied upon as a sole treatment for neurological conditions or any other severe health conditions. Always consult with healthcare professionals for appropriate medical care.
